The concept for masterpieces was born in 2002 while we were visiting an art gallery in Brussels.  Wim was admiring small works of art on the wall and exclaimed "one day we will do this on chocolate"...and so, in 2006, ChocolaTas initiated a juried competition conducted by the faculty of The Emily Carr Institute of Art.  Artists were asked to submit original works of art, 1 1/2" x 1 1/2", using a maximum of three colours.  A total of 185 entries were submitted by 70 Western Canadian artists. Ten exquisite and unique works of art were selected for the masterpieces gift box collection.
